First Time FAQ
This FAQ is geared towards first time students of hot yoga as well as newcomers to the BYN studio. The when, the what and how to get started properly. And if we haven’t covered your question in the FAQ below, you can always email, call or visit!
When should I arrive?
Show up 15 minutes before class time. This should give you plenty of time to get changed and set up, and also allow for a few minutes to acclimate to the hot room before class begins.
If it’s your first time ever at the BYN studio, you will need to complete a new student registration form before you can take your first class. Please leave yourself an extra 5 minutes for this process. Students under 18 years old MUST have a parent or guardian signature on the registration form for their first class.
What should I bring?
A yoga mat, a towel (bath or beach size) and water. Mats, towels and water are available for rent or purchase in the studio. An open mind is also highly recommended.
What should I wear?
Wear clothes you can sweat in and avoid heavy cotton fabrics. Everyone’s personal comfort level is different, but generally speaking, less is more.
What else should you be telling me?
Drink more water than usual the day before. Try to avoid eating for at least three hours before class time, and avoid caffeinated beverages for 6 hours before class.
Breathing is the most important thing you do in this class. If all you do is breathe for 90 minutes and stay in the room, you have accomplished a lot.
Is there anything I should avoid?
Judgement – Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do.
Expectations – Try to stay in the moment and work with the body you have right now. Your body and mind will adapt and adjust faster than you think is possible.
What can I hope for?
A fresh outlook.
